We should eat less fat and sugar.

Fat contains twice the amount of calories than in other nutrients. A typical Irish diet contains more than 90 grams of fat per day.To lose weight you need to cut this by a third. Try the following to reduce your fat intake:

  • Switch to low-fat dairy products
  • Eat more fish , turkey , chicken, pork,
    lean beef steak.
  • Processed sugar is very high in calories. It's valueless as a food and provides almost no nutrients. Try the following to reduce sugar intake in your diet:

  • Reduce the amount of sugar you add to tea and coffee.
  • Don't add sugar to cereal
  • Avoid frosted cereal.
  • Eat tinned fruit packed in fruit juice, not syrup.
  • Avoid biscuits and cakes .
  • Start reading food labels and choose brands with less sugar.
  • Eat more fibre, fruit and vegetables.

Fibre contains a lot less calories than fat or sugar. It helps to make you feel full and gives you the feeling of being satsfied. fibre can also help prevent a range of digestive complaints. good sources of fibre are whole meal bread, potatoes, bown rice, beans, peas, leafy green vegetables, pulses, bran-based cereals.
